| A logic analyzer is a specialized type of electronic test equipment which allows a technician to ensure that a digital circuit or system is working properly. A logic analyzer displays the logic levels (0 or 1) of signals in the circuit which are much too fast to be observed by any other means. A logic analyzer is necessary for digital troubleshooting due to the fact that digital systems have far too many channels to be measured with an oscilloscope. Thus a logic analyzer captures data which cannot be captured by any other means.
Logic analyzers are connected to the system to be tested with a series of probes. Years ago they were simply attached with large numbers of clips but eventually specialized logic analyzer probes came into widespread use. These probes ensure a safe connection, both mechanical as well as electrical since they're designed to not alter the electrical signal. Once the logic analyzer is set up the trigger condition is set. A trigger condition can be anything from triggering on the falling edge of a signal to triggering on a precise HTTP packet. After capturing the data the logic analyzer's software converts it into various formats such as assembly language or timing diagrams which a technician can then use to debug failures in the digital system.
Logic analysis equipment is used extensively in the chip making, computer and networking industries. A logic analyzer can save a technician countless hours in the debugging process not to mention the huge cost savings for companies.
The most prominent manufacturers of logic analyzers are HP/Agilent and Tektronix. At Industrial Test Equipment we invite you to check out the currently available new and used models of logic analyzers, many of which are available at discount prices.
